The Sanzhi UFO Houses (三芝飛碟屋) also known as Sanzhi Pod Houses or Sanzhi Pod City, are a set of abandoned buildings in Sanzhi, Taipei County, Taiwan. They were constructed in early 1981 as a vacation resort in a part of the northern coast adjacent to Danshui and was marketed towards US military officers coming from their East Asian postings. The project however was abandoned due to investment losses and several car accidents death during construction, which is said to have been caused by the unfortuitous act of bisecting the chinese dragon sculpture located near the resort gates for widening the road to the buildings.
The pod-like buildings have come to be a minor tourist attraction due in part to the strange architecture. The structures have since been subject of a film, used as a location by MTV for cinematography, photographed by people, and become a subject in on-line discussions, described as a ghost town or "ruins of the future".
They were scheduled to be torn down in late 2008, but have received petition from the on-line community to retain one of the structures as a museum.
