Sandy Beach, Hawaii

Sandy Beach (location ) is a beach on the South Shore of Oʻahu in Hawaiʻi. It is known for its excellent bodyboarding and bodysurfing opportunities due to shore break that breaks very close to the shore, and consistent barrels all along the beach. Consequently, more injuries occur per year at Sandy Beach than any other beach in Hawaiʻi, earning it the infamous nickname, "break-neck" beach. The water is especially dangerous during high surf, when strong rip currents are present. The beach park is located between Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve Park on the west and Makapuʻu Point on east along 8800 Kalanianaʻole Highway in Hawaiʻi Kai, on Honolulu's southside neighborhood.

In October 2014, Honolulu City Council member Stanley Chang proposed changing the name of Sandy Beach to "President Barack Obama Sandy Beach Park." The plans were dropped due to opposition from the public.

"Must be a strong swimmer to bathe here. Not a place for kids to swim. But the scenic ride from Honolulu, the beach itself and the surf are fabulous. Love this beach!

Watch for the shrimp trucks & shaved ice trucks that pull in along the highway. Great spot to see whales (3 spotted in a two-hour visit today), lots of parking, and a fun beach with good sand.

Beautiful beach, but not for the inexperienced. Tourists talk with the lifeguards before going in or, at the very least, go in with someone who knows who can give you direction.

North end is rockier but has more parking and you can still see the beach and blowhole.

Really strong waves, be careful if you don't know how to swim properly. Good for bodyboarding

Uninterrupted beach for 5 miles (back and forth), pristine water with waves good enough for beginner surfers, very very few people with little birdies on the beach
