The National Zoo and Aquarium is a privately owned zoo and aquarium in the Australian capital city Canberra. It is located in Yarralumla at the western end of Lake Burley Griffin alongside Scrivener Dam.
The combination of zoo and aquarium is unique to Australia. The
zoo has both Australian endemic species and introduced species
including the largest collection of big cats in Australia,
including, until recently, the only tigon in Australasia.[] The
facility is also involved in a number of breeding programs for
endangered species. It is also the 2nd zoo in Australia to hold
White lions.
The zoo is owned by business-man Richard Tindale.
