Guaita

Guaita is one of three peaks which overlooks the city of San Marino, the capital of San Marino. The other two are De La Fratta and Montale.

Fortress of Guaita

The Guaita fortress is the oldest of the three towers constructed on Monte Titano, and the most famous. It was built in the 11th century and served briefly as a prison. It is one of the three towers depicted on both the national flag and coat of arms. It was registered as one of the World Heritage Sites in 2008.[]

This first tower is a great start for what it can be a very pleasant experience in San Marino. The price of 6 euros pays off by the view it provides of the second tower in the furthermore mountains.

Bellissima ambientazione! La torre è stata restaurata in maniera non molto consona all'epoca, almeno così mi sembra. Nelle giornate medievali e precedenti si possono notare signorotti, contadine ecc.

Primo fortilizio sammarinese databile anteriormente all’XI secolo. Ampliato e ristrutturato in varie epoche, fu per secoli destinato a carcere, fino al 1975.
