The Calcanhar Lighthouse (Portuguese: Farol do Calcanhar) is the highest lighthouse in Brazil. The lighthouse is strategically placed in the Northeast Region of Brazil near Touros, where the Brazilian coast forms a right angle, known as the "corner of the continent". It alerts ships to a coral reef located 7 km (4.3 mi) offshore. A spiral staircase of 277 steps leads to an observation platform; a 21-step ladder leads to the light..
