Being careful is the keyword here. There are deep holes in the ground and narrow, sometimes extremely steep passages. Some parts of the castle almost expect climbing techniques. But it's all on your own risk, there is no guard and you payed only a little entrance fee. The castle was built by Sarı Süleyman (Süleyman the Blond), a local Kurdish despot of the Mahmudi tribe, in 1643 when Ottoman power was slipping. Its appearance is such that you might be inclined to believe the local tale that the Kurdisch bey had the hands of the architect cut off after it was finished, to ensure no similar castle could be built elsewhere....
