Cog'ing it on down! MPP 25 has just departed the 14,115' summit of Pikes Peak while its passengers enjoy the view, totally unaware that a train nerd was waiting on the deck for them with camera in hand. The Manitou and Pike's Peak Railway is North America's highest railway...and that's in the literal sense and not in the "pot-is-legal-in-Colorado" sense! It's a nearly 9-mile journey from the summit down to the station in Manitou Springs, CO and the scenery is amazing. If you'd like to get to the summit of Pikes Peak, you can take the cog railway, you can take the paved road and drive yourself all the way up, or if you like self-torture, you can walk up using a 13-mile trail from the east called the Barr Trail or another longer one that approaches from the west. I suppose you could also land a helicopter there if you're so inclined...the parking lot is certainly big enough! Not sure if anyone has ever parachuted onto the summit before...might have to look into that one.
