I finally got to do the "Behind the Scenes" tour (thanks, Sean and Sean!) The enlisted men had running water, a privy, and two iron stoves. There would have been wooden bunk beds, rather than the cots used for sleepovers. The slots in the ceiling are for batten boards to support the (missing) plaster. Note the green stains - the first step of restoration has to be fixing the drainage problems on the upper level.
