Photos of Bonn Egyptian Museum

Bonn - Kurfurstliches Schlos by grotevriendelijkereus

The palace of the prince-elector in Bonn. There had been a palace here since the second half of the 16th century, but that was destroyed in a siege in 1689 CE. The current building, a 4 towered castle around a central arcaded courtyard, was built in 1697 and underwent several major alterations through the course of its life; including a major fire in 1777, a change from a castle to the main university building in 1808 and damage from RAF bombs in 1944. The view of this castle from the large palace gardens is a classic and you can find countless photographs of the castle from this location. For good reason too, it looks pretty impressive from there. It looks also pretty flat. I decided to take a few steps back and to the left so that i had a shot from within the trees that surround the large field. This way you still see the castle in all its splendour, but also gain a lot of depth from the trees framing the shot and the fact that the four towers are no longer exactly behind each other.
