Devizes Castle, 7 September 2010. A Noran motte-and-bailey castle was built in 1080 but burnt down in 1113. It was replaced by a stone castle in 1120 which was badly damaged by a bombardment by Cromwell in the Civil War after which it was slighted (demolished) in 1648. A Victorian domestic castle in 1842 (architect Henry Goodridge) which was extended in the 1860's.
