<b>Wheal Coates Tin Mine</b> This engine house dates from 1872, it housed a beam engine which hoisted the ore to the surface and also powered a set of Cornish Stamps, these were used to crush the ore into a course sand which was then processed on the dressing floor, to separate the waste from the heavier tin. Despite major investment in machinery and buildings the mine was unsuccessful, opening and closing three times between 1872 and 1889. <b>Thank you for your visit and your comments, they are greatly appreciated.</b>
