Denmark, the ancestral home of the ancient Vikings and a current member of the European Union, is a great destination for travellers in search of beauty, art, culture, nature, and history.

This small kingdom of some 5.8 million people covers an area of 42,930 km2 and lies at the border of northern Europe. The capital and largest city are Copenhagen, with a population close to 1.8 million. Other important cities are Aarhus, Odense, and Aalborg.

For centuries, this picturesque country has served as an enculturation point between northern Germany and Scandinavia. Its splendid beaches, majestic coastline and fascinating countryside are just some ideas that make Denmark a beautiful place to visit.

Denmark is home to some 16 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. In the capital, you’ll find landmarks and fascinating sights, such as the Little Mermaid statue and the changing of the guard at Amalienborg Palace – the home of the Royal Family. Outside Copenhagen, delightful attractions include Legoland in Billund as well as historic castles like Kronborg near Elsinore (made famous by Shakespeare).

The best time to go is during the summer when days are long (Danes enjoy up to 18 hours of daylight in June) and temperatures warm - from around 18°C/64°F to 23°C/70°F. You'll have plenty of time to explore outdoors or savour delicious local dishes like the renowned smørrebrød or Danish pastries. They are must-try treats!

The official language here is Danish but most Danes also speak English fluently. The primary currency is Danish Krone (DKK) and yes, it does tend to be quite expensive compared to many other countries due to taxes on tourists coming for shorter trips. That said, there are plenty of budget-friendly accommodation options available so visitors can save money while still enjoying all the fun activities on offer throughout the country.

Overall, Denmark provides something for everyone making it an ideal holiday destination sure to provide lasting memories.
