The Republic of Austria (German: Republik Österreich) is a state in Central Europe located in the Danube River valley. Austria got its name from the ancient Upper German Österreich ("Eastern state") in 996. Since then, the German language has remained the official language of the state.

Austria is one of the richest and most peaceful countries in the European Union. It has common borders with Switzerland and Germany and the Czech Republic in the north, Slovakia and Hungary in the east, Slovenia and Italy in the south.

Austria has no access to the sea.

The nature of Austria is very beautiful because of the huge number of mountain lakes and rivers, the majestic Alps with ice caves and ski slopes, the international river Danube, with cruise liners running along with it. Thanks to the millions of tourists coming and going on holiday in Austria, tourism has become one of the most important components of the state's income.

The capital of Austria is Vienna.

The security level is high.

The national currency is the euro.

Climate

Due to its location, the climate in Austria is highly dependent on the terrain. Summer is cool in the mountainous areas, winter is snowy and cold. In the valley of the river Danube, summer is warm, winter is snowy but warm. The climate is temperate, transitional to the continental climate.
