Anguilla is a British overseas territory located in the Caribbean Sea. It is known for its pristine white-sand beaches, excellent seafood restaurants and prestigious resorts. This quiet little island is a paradise for beach lovers, nature-enthusiasts and culture seekers alike.

The original inhabitants of Anguilla were Arawaks and Caribs. The first European settlers arrived during the seventeenth century; the English colonists eventually claimed the island as a protectorate in 1650. In 1967, Anguilla declared itself independent from the United Kingdom but was quickly reabsorbed into the colony. In 1980, Anguilla finally achieved full autonomy as a separate British overseas territory.

There are many popular cities in Anguilla that are well worth visiting. These include The Valley, the island's capital city; George Hill, an old fishing village featuring historic architecture; Island Harbour, a picturesque fishing port; and Shoal Bay, a spot renowned for its beautiful beach and excellent diving spots.

For sun worshippers, there is no shortage of stunning beaches to explore in Anguilla. Shoal Bay Beach and Rendezvous Beach are two of the most popular spots, while beaches like Little Bay and Guana Cove offer great snorkelling opportunities. Nature lovers can look out for seabirds such as pelicans and frigatebirds on Crocus Bay or enjoy some birdwatching and hiking in Sandy Ground National Park.

No visit to Anguilla would be complete without trying some of its world-famous seafood dishes. Popular seafood specialities include sea bass served with creole sauce, curried conch, snapper with mango salsa, fried lobster and shrimp fritters. Wash it all down with a local Banks beer or an Anguillian rum punch!

If you're looking for things to do beyond relaxing at the beach, you'll find plenty of interesting attractions in Anguilla. Fishing trips, scuba diving excursions, boat tours, sailing trips, golf courses and spa treatments can all be enjoyed here.

Anguilla is an expensive destination due to its popularity amongst celebrities and aristocrats, yet you will still find reasonably priced accommodations and restaurants catering to every budget. All in all, Anguilla is an unforgettable destination that offers something for everyone!
