Wetalawa is one of villages in Sri Lanka situated some 20 km south-east of Gampola Town and 120 km from the capital. This the small place has a population of 150 people. Many people visit Wetalawa each year to take a look at its famous dams.

Bandaranaike Intl Colombo (IATA: CMB) is the nearest airport to Wetalawa, situated just 120 km to the west.

1. Upper Kotmale Dam
The Upper Kotmale Dam (also known as the Upper Kotmale Hydropower Project, or UKHP) is a large hydroelectric dam currently under construction in Talawakele, within the Nuwara Eliya District, in the Central Province of Sri Lanka. Once completed in late 2011, the facility will be the third largest hydroelectric dam in the country.
