Shakhrisabz (or Kesh, also Kish) is a city in southern Uzbekistan, about 80 km south of Samarkand. Shahrisabz was one of the major cities of Central Asia. It is primarily known today as the birthplace of 14th-century Turco-Mongol conqueror Timur.
