San Salvador is the capital and the largest city in El Salvador, located some 10 km to the north from San Marcos, 130 km south-east of Guatemala border. The population of San Salvador is about 526,000 people (census of 2014). Many people visit San Salvador to experience its cathedrals and theatres.

The Metropolitan Cathedral of the Holy Savior (Catedral Metropolitana de San Salvador) is the principal church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of San Salvador and the seat of the Archbishop of San Salvador. 2. Teatro Nacional de El Salvador
Teatro Nacional de El Salvador, or National Theatre of El Salvador, is the oldest theatre in Central America. It began construction on November 3, 1911, by the French architect Daniel Beylard; and inaugurated March 1, 1917. It is of French Renaissance style with modern touches. It was decorated by the Italian architect Lucio Capellaro, and its Great Hall is one of the most beautiful and elegant in Central America.

The Museo de la Palabra y la Imagen (Spanish for Museum of the Word and the Image) is an innovative museum located in San Salvador, El Salvador. It was founded in the late 1990s by Carlos Henríquez Consalvi as a museum dedicated to collecting and preserving memories of the Salvadoran civil war, incorporating memories across the political spectrum. 4. San Salvador El Salvador Temple
Announced in 2007, construction began on the San Salvador El Salvador Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) in September 2008. Ground was broken for the temple and the site was dedicated by Don R. Clarke, of the Seventy and president of the church's Central America Area on 20 September 2008. At the time of completion, it was the fourth temple in Central America. It is the first LDS temple built in El Salvador.
