Torres del Paine National Park is a Chilean National Park encompassing a mountains, glacier, lake, and river-rich area in southern Chile. The Cordillera del Paine is the centerpiece of the park. Heard Island and McDonald Islands (formally named the Territory of Heard Island and McDonald Islands) are a volcanic group of barren islands located in the Southern Ocean, about two-thirds of the way from Madagascar to Antarctica, approximately 4099 km south west of Perth. Discovered in the mid-19th century, they have been territories of Australia since 1947, and contain the only two active volcanoes in Australian territory, one of which, Mawson Peak, is the highest Australian mountain.

Mawson Peak is a mountain peak on Heard Island, an Australian territory in the Southern Ocean. It is the highest peak in any state or territory of Australia. An active complex volcano, Mawson Peak is the summit of the Big Ben massif. It was named by the 1948 ANARE Heard Island Expedition after Sir Douglas Mawson, the leader of BANZARE 1929-31, who visited the island in November-December 1929.

Mont Ross is a stratovolcano, the highest mountain in the Kerguelen Islands at 1, 840 m. It is located in the Massif Gallieni range, at the end of the Gallieni peninsula on the main island of Grande Terre. The volcano is composed primarily of trachybasalt and was active during the late Pleistocene.
