Grljan is the small settlement in
Italy, located some 20 km to the north-west from
Trieste, 100 km south-west of Slovenia border. The capital city
Rome is in 570 km to the south-west. It has a population of 500 people. Grljan is a popular tourist destination thanks to its castles.

The Miramare Castle (italiano. Castello di Miramare; Deutsch. Schloß Miramar) is a 19th century castle, built for Austrian Archduke Maximilian and his wife, Charlotte of Belgium, later Emperor Maximilian I and Empress Carlota of Mexico. The castle is situated on the Gulf of Trieste near Trieste, northeastern Italy. Construction took place from 1856 to 1860 to a design by Carl Junker on the orders of Archduke Maximilian.
