Lake Bled

Lake Bled (Slovene: Blejsko jezero; German: Veldeser See) is a glacial lake in the Julian Alps in northwestern Slovenia, where it adjoins the town of Bled. The area is a popular tourist destination.

Geography and history

The lake is 2,120 m long and 1,380 m wide, with a maximum depth of 30.6 metres. The lake is situated in a picturesque environment, surrounded by mountains and forests. A medieval castle stands above the lake on the north shore. The lake surrounds Bled Island (Sln. Blejski otok), the only natural island in Slovenia. The island has several buildings, the main one being the Pilgrimage Church of the Assumption of Mary (Slovenian: Cerkev Marijinega vnebovzetja), built in the 15th century, where weddings are held regularly. The church has a 52-metre tower and there is a stairway with 99 steps leading up to the building.

The lake is also well known among rowers because it has very good conditions for the sport. It hosted the World Rowing Championships in 1966, 1979, and 1989. It will host the World Rowing Championship again in 2011.

The lake is 35 kilometers from the Ljubljana International Airport and 55 km from the capital city Ljubljana.

Slovenia is one of the most beautiful countries in Europe and Bled is the jewel in its crown. The castle, the island, the church on the island. The food, the people the air. Wonderful place.

this is one of the most beautiful natural places i've seen in the world, maybe similar only to some landscapes in Switzerland! Rent a boat and go to the little Ireland in the lake. It's so romantic!

Beyond the only designated swim site (Grajska Beach), most people swim for free and with better views at the Camping Bled site. No lockers but you can change at the free WC and plenty of vendors.

It is hard to look away from such serene beauty. Found myself here again. You can opt to row yourself to the island in the middle or take a Pletna & let the local boy row while u capture lovely pics

Best time 2 enjoy Lake Bled: I was there b4 9AM, get on the Pletna(boat that takes you to Bled Island) before hordes of tourist arrive between 10 to 11. Very popular with Asian tourists. View: magical

In my opinion, the Slovenian people are the most friendly and helpful people that I have encountered during my travels, but even the avian locals are just as friendly!❤️
